Concern’s Cash Registers to Accelerate Customer Service

JSC Concern Sozvezdie (member of holding Ruselectronics by state corporation Rostec) developed foremost prototype of self-service cash registers (SSCR), so-called “smart cash registers”, for retail chains and large supermarkets.

The design by Krasnodarskiy instrumentation plant “Kaskade” (a member of the Concern) represents a software and hardware system that interacts with the commercial enterprise’s database via wire or wireless LAN. The cash register is equipped with bioptic scanner which allows it to read all the types of bar codes used; it can check goods’ tax stamps when purchasing alcoholic products. The equipment can handle cash as well as non-cash payments; it can produce receipt in both paper and electronic form.

A “smart cash register” is remarkable for the increased accuracy of platform scales with measurement range of 45 to 90 kg with 10 g drift. In the future it is planned to broaden the cash register capabilities by adding functions for automated packing and contactless payment using a smartphone.

The new equipment is planned to significantly cut down the shops’ expenses since it will allow to decrease headcount of staff, save selling space as well as accelerate customer service by far. According to the search, demand for Russian SSCR market is more than 20 000 devices per year. There is a capability to provide for up to 20% of the market.

The new cash register is 30% cheaper than the prototypes from America, Japan and Europe providing the same velocity of customer service.
